Or… Tripping over the Pedestal Here in sunny beautiful vanilla Western PA, it’s easy to become attenuated to the connections one has to the motherland, notably to its people. Oh sure, I’ve got my Bengalis here and a few Indian friends left over from college but apas and bhaiyas, unkels and aunties don’t count, per [...] Yesterday, while I was eating my lunch outside in Market Square, I overheard a conversation between a group of women. One of the ladies was remarking that the gentleman she’d been seeing had made “the move” on her. They’d been on “5 dates including one nice dinner” but this was apparently not enough to seal [...] When I moved out of my house into my apartment, I brought with me some of the trappings of having lived 5+ years in a single-family home, namely two beds. (A third I left at my parents’ house). My apartment is technically a two bedroom construct but the small bedroom can barely fit a queen-sized [...] Best ad from this year’s Superbowl. This afternoon and evening, Pittsburgh experienced an extended blackout due to high winds and rains. (I say extended blackout in the western sense because it lasted less than 4 hours). It was rare for us to have blackouts in Nigeria but we did have them. In Bangladesh, blackouts aren’t uncommon though that may depend on [...] Or… Twerpy-looking teenagers don’t have the chops to stick with me I was driving home from a friend’s house last night when a black Buick SUV started tailgating me in the streets before getting onto the Parkway. I find this sort of behavior to be incredibly annoying because I wasn’t exactly driving slowly and I [...] Do I really have to do anything? Everyone expect that I should have done “something” for my birthday. Go out. Go clubbing. Go to a nice restaurant. Go catch gonorrhea. But I’ll let you what – I did nothing.
