First dinner in Lisbon. And let me tell you, it was fantastic. I went to a a cute, little restaurant called Sul. Low-light ambiance, nice decorations without going overboard and friendly service. Sim, menu em ingles. Codfish confit with a creamy risotto in coriander-infused olive oil. They gave me two large codfish filets… tender, flaky, [...] Faro barely merits a mention in this log. It’s a beach town with seemingly little action during low season. The flight from Liverpool was fine and my hotel is nice but nada going on in the evening. Finito. I really have to admire the way that Liverpool is trying to re-invent itself. The Liverpool One development looks like a fantastic commercial enterprise and the use of former dock space for retail and entertainment is quite appealing. And the museums – Maritime, Beatles and Liverpool Life – are splendid. I tend to see Liverpool [...] 
December 10th, 2011, a date which will live in… famy… or something. But like Roman Catholics to Rome or Muslims on the Haaj (yes, you’re damn right I’m making that analogy, bitch! It’s called hyperbole!), so must a Liverpool FC fan make the pilgrimage to Anfield. My ticket included access to one of the indoor [...] [I'm copying down my thoughts from my recent European vacation and posting them. They'll appear back-dated]. I think my cousin is scared of visiting America. Actually, I’m sure of it because he told me he wouldn’t want to visit there. Because we look like a Security State to the Brits. The Patriot Act, the NDAA [...] I never get tired of take-off. In 5 years of steady and sometimes mind-numbing travel at Cerner, I got tired many things about the vagabond lifestyle. I got tired waking up at 4:00 AM on Mondays, getting home too late on Thursday, living out a suitcase, surprised friends when I turned up at the local [...] The last few weeks in London have been pretty good. I haven’t left the capital and I’ve enjoyed relaxing on the weekends, walking around town, seeing the hustle and bustle of the people. Britain is largely a study in change. There is a strong sense of “being British” but with the influxes of immigrants, that [...] I hate travel. Only home in London for 3 days before it’s back on a plane to central Europe. This time, my flight out of Heathrow left at 6.10am! So I had to get up around 2.30am to catch the night bus at 2.45am to get to Heathrow by 4.15am for the 6.10am flight. Oh [...] Pgh. I’m combining two entries into one because I’m so bloody tired of travel! We got back from Granada around midnight, didn’t get back to my flat till around 1.30am, didn’t get to sleep till around 2.30am. Then I had to get up at 7am to get to Gatwick to catch my flight to Pittsburgh. [...] I finished the major tourist sports in Sevilla and ate my fill of paella in just over a day and two nights. So on Puja’s advice, I took a rapide train to see the Great Mosque at Córdoba (La Mezquita). A little background. I love mosque architecture, despite its seeming connection to indigenous Arab culture. [...] |
